Meal Delivery Services: What is Out There
I love cooking, but no matter how well you know your grocery store you can get stuck there for ages trying to track down every ingredient on the grocery list you spent hours making. While I do love making recipes off Pinterest (check my board full of tested recipes here) and from blogs like Skinnytaste, it’s nice to be presented with a few options for meals and not belabor the choices each week. I can’t remember how I first tried Hello Fresh, but I had done Blue Apron in the past and the recipes were too exotic for me. If you are really short on time, I would highly recommend T
he Fresh Diet, which delivers 3 fully prepared meals and snacks daily to your home. I’m very intrigued by Munchery which will deliver fully prepared meals (some under $10) OR cooking kits to your home–the company has a charitable mission as well and has delivered over 2 million meals to food banks. Finally, Chef’d lets you search a database of meal options and order meal-specific ingredients to be delivered. I would love to know if any of you have tried these or other options!

HELLO FRESH
I know all the options of meal and/or ingredient delivery are overwhelming when we are just trying to find a way to make our lives easier. I’ve been using Hello Fresh intermittently for about 8 months, and so far I have really enjoyed it. Each week, you are given a list of possible menu choices for the following week. On Mondays, I get ingredients for my 3 chosen meals delivered to my house with everything included and pre-measured with easy to understand cooking instructions. All you need to have on hand is basically olive oil and cookware. It’s so nice if you want to have someone over for dinner and can give them options of which to prepare, and I love knowing that I won’t starve during the week. Living in LA, I eat a lot of meals in my car and it can be stressful to try to go out for lunch during work so I definitely take advantage of bringing my own food to work or my MBA classes. Each week, as we many of us eat lunch or dinner during class, my classmates were always intrigued and impressed by what entree I had for the day. The plan I have costs $69/week for 3 meals with 2 servings each, which comes out less than $12/meal. See below for what the meals I’ve made end up looking like.
